Brig. (Dr.) S. K. Ambike

Brig. (Dr.) S. K. Ambike was commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery in June 1970. On successful completion of the YOUNG OFFICERS course, he was awarded the prestigious SILVER GUN for having stood FIRST on the course. He was posted to 196 Mountain Regiment and fought 1971 war as a Gun Position officer in BALNOI SECTOR in J & K.

He passed out from National Defence Academy, Pune in 1969. He is also the graduate of prestigious Defence Services Staff College, Wellington where cream of the defence forces of India is trained alongwith officers from 48 foreign countries. He has also been A Faculty Member at DefenceServices Staff College, The Army War College and School of Artillery Devlali, near Nasik. Out of total of 39 years of service, he has served for 15 years in Jammu & Kashmir.

On the academic side, after completing M.Sc. & PGDBM he was awarded the degree of Master of Philosophy in “Defence and Strategic Studies” in 1996. Having had four tenures in J & K, after command of an Atrillery Brigade in Baramulla, he decided to persue doctoral studies and was a Research Fellow at the Army War College, MHOW.
His subject of Research was “Management of Proxy War in J & K”. He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy on 30th April 2003.

On the sports side he has some more FIRSTs to his credit. While in NDA, he was the FIRST cadet to be awarded a MAROON BLAZER in Physical Training. He is the only golfer in the history of Wellington Gymkhana Club, Wellington to have won THE WELLINGTON OPEN Golf Tournament for three years in succession. He has been playing ‘Single Digit’ handicap for past ten years.

At Army H.Q. he was Head of an Organisation specially created to monitor development and trials of all electronic, electro-optical and optical surveillance sensors in Indian Army. He was also enthrusted to develop and field state of the art automated surveillance system for Indian Army with dedicated data transmission network with cost outlay of Rs. 500 Crores. This system was successfully developed and handed over to the Indian Army in a period of 2 years & 4 months, a record of sorts considering that most of the projects have got bogged down in time and cost over-runs. This system has successfully met 80% of Army’s operational requirements. It has been recommended for introduction in the Army. For this outstanding achievement he was awarded VishishtSeva Medal on 26th January 2006.

On retiring from the Army he was appointed as the Advisor to Bharat Electronics Ltd, Banglore a Govt of India’s NAVRATNA Company from October 2005 to November 2006. Since retirement from the Army he joined the academic profession and has been associated with educational field. He has been Director with Sinhgad Institute & Siddhant Institute. Presently he is the Director of International Institute of Management of Science at Chinchwad, Pune since 2008. He is the approved Director of PUNE UNIVERSITY. Recently, on 07 Dec 2011, he has been appointed as a member of the “ACADEMIC COUNCIL” of YASHWANTRAO CHAVAN MAHARASHTRA OPEN UNIVERSITY, additional feather in his cap.
